DHC Sponsors Movie Magic and Math at CWU Friday

What is the secret ingredient in that makes animated Disney and Pixar movies come alive? Mathematics!

Join renowned mathematics professor Michael Dorff for his presentation, “Movies and Math—the Past, Present, and the Future.” Using examples from the animated films Frozen and The Incredibles, Dorff will demonstrate how the films’ artists used math to achieve effects like realistic snow and quick-moving characters.

Dorff’s presentation will also convey the important role math has in creating Hollywood blockbusters, and how mathematics will shape the future of the film industry. The presentation takes place on at 4:00 p.m. Friday, February 27 in the CWU Science Building, Room 147, and is free and open to the public.

Dorff is an acclaimed mathematics lecturer from Brigham Young University. His presentation is sponsored by Douglas Honors College.
