Following is a breakdown of the responsibilities of each party involved in the accommodation process for students with disabilities at Central Washington University:

Student

• The student must register with Disability Services Office (DS), per Central Washington University (CWU) policy and procedure.
• The student must submit requests for adjustments/accommodations to DS and CWU faculty in a timely manner.
• The student must submit his/her on-line accommodation requests to the professor of each class in which he/she wishes to use academic adjustments and meet with the professor to discuss the manner in which academic adjustments/accommodation will be delivered.
• The student must meet all academic standards set by program and college.

Important Note:  Disability-related accommodations and academic adjustments are not retroactive.

Faculty

• Professors should refer any student requesting adjustments that do not appear in his/her accommodation plan to the DS office.
• Professors should refer any student from whom the instructor has not received an official on-line request for accommodations but who is requesting adjustments to the DS office.
• Professors may choose to have extended time and or non-distracting environment exams administered by Testing Services.
• Professors administering their own accommodated exams must provide all of the approved testing adjustments that are requested by the student.
• Professors are encouraged to contact DS if they have any questions or concerns about academic adjustments requested by students with disabilities enrolled in their classes.

Disability Services

• The DS staff will review written documentation of disability and establish academic adjustments under the rules and regulations of both Federal and State disability law.
• The DS staff will be available to help both students and instructors implement the listed instructional adjustments.
• The DS staff provides adjustments that are not part of the instructional aspect of classes.
• The DS staff will respond to questions, concerns and suggestions of both students and instructors.
