ELLENSBURG, Wash. — The seventh annual Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) is being observed this week, November 18-24, throughout the United States and in more than 130 countries around the globe. It’s billed as the world’s largest celebration of the innovators and job creators who launch startups that bring ideas to life, drive economic growth, and expand human welfare.
Central Washington University’s Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (I4IE), in conjunction with the Kittitas County Chamber of Commerce, and the university’s student Entrepreneur Club will be hosting a GEW presentation on Thursday, November 21. The 3:00 p.m. event, at the Ellensburg Days Inn, is titled “Multidisciplinary Teamwork for Rural Economic Development: The Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), An Asset for Kittitas County.” The program is free and open to the public.
“The 90-minute program is about developing regional entrepreneurship,” said Roy Savoian, I4IE director, “including the technical assistance PNNL can provide for entrepreneurial ventures and economic development.”
David Greenslade will be the featured speaker. He is the PNNL commercialization manager for microtechnology, sensor, nuclear, radiochemical, and environmental technology. Along with marketing PNNL inventions and innovations, Greenslade oversees intellectual property rights and technology transfer agreements. He is also a member of the I4IE Advisory Group.
Based in Richland, PNNL is one of 10 United States Department of Energy (DOE) National Laboratories, managed by the DOE’s Office of Science.
The event will also include a panel discussion on “Resources and Assistance for an Entrepreneurial Community.” The panel will include Savoian and Ron Cridlebaugh, the economic development director for the Kittitas County Chamber of Commerce. A question-and-answer session will conclude the presentation.
