Central Washington University's award-winning Department of Music is coming to KVYE 47, public television that can be viewed from Cle Elum to Prosser. CWU on Stage will air on one Monday each month at 7:00 PM, beginning July 8. CWU On Stage will be hosted by CWU Director of Orchestras, professor Nikolas Caoile, and will feature orchestral and vocal classical music.
The first program features Claude Debussy's La Mer, performed by the CWU Symphony Orchestra. This partnership enables CWU to share remarkable musical performance with a wider audience and provides original local programming to KYVE 47, according to Caoile, who also is music director of the Wenatchee Valley Symphony Orchestra and Principal Conductor of the Salem Chamber Orchestra.
"This agreement is really a win for everyone. Central's music program is among the top in the nation but we haven't had a way to share that talent with the community," said Linda Schactler, CWU executive director of public affairs. "We're delighted to be able to make the greater Yakima Valley a CWU performance hall."

The partnership between CWU and KCTS 9 / KYVE 47 calls for one new program per month over the next year. Since 2005, CWU and KYVE 47 have long partnered to produce "Apple Bowl," KYVE 47's "Jeopardy"-style high school quiz competition.
“One of the roles of public media is to give a voice to the community,” said John Booth, Deputy Director of Content at KCTS 9. “This new program features wonderful musical performances created by the community—in this case CWU—and made available to a larger audience through KYVE 47. It’s a natural fit.”
KYVE 47 has served Yakima and central Washington, a region with more than 250,000 residents, since its founding as a community-supported public television station in 1962. Since 1994, KCTS Television has held the license for KYVE 47.
