ELLENSBURG, Wash. — Travis Box is on-the-job as the new general manager of Central Washington University’s student radio station, KCWU-FM, 88.1 The ‘Burg. He was hired following a national search.
Coming to CWU from Portland, Oregon, Box brings more than 20 years of commercial radio experience to his new position. He has worked for Clear Channel and Fisher Communications radio stations, including KOMO-AM and KVI-AM in Seattle, and KEX-AM, Z100/KKRZ-FM and KGON-FM in Portland, Oregon.
“We’re already excited about the energy, creativity, knowledge, and perspective that Travis has brought to The ‘Burg,” said Scott Drummond, CWU Campus Activities director and search committee chair. “He’s proving to be an excellent model of a professional who endeavors to coach, mentor, and teach our students and community volunteers, while also infusing fun into the mix.”
As to why he was interested in the position, Box said, “It was clear from the beginning of the process how committed CWU is to the program, from the world-class broadcast facility to the dedicated team of students, passionate about radio. I couldn’t imagine a more fulfilling opportunity than to help guide these amazing students to new personal and professional experiences that may serve them whether they pursue broadcasting or any other future occupation. I’m also exited by what they can teach me.”
Located in CWU’s Student Union and Recreation Center, 88.1 FM The ‘Burg is run by and for university students. It features music genres including modern rock, hip-hop, top 40, hot country, and alternative favorites. KCWU-FM operates under a non-commercial, educational FM broadcast license, first issued by the Federal Communications Commission to the CWU Board of Trustees in 1962.
