The Central Washington University men's Rugby team will face St. Mary's today at 10:20 a.m. in the USA Rugby Men's College 7s Championship semifinals in Greensboro, North Carolina. The Wildcats, a perennial contender for the national 7s title, beat Life University earlier today advance into to the semi-finals of the USA Rugby Men's 7s College Championships. In today's earlier victory, CWU's Chandler Jenkins broke a 17-17 tie with a final score for the winning 22-17 victory. It was a huge lift to CWU, which lost a sudden-death, national championship match to Life University in 2011.
Bob Ford, CWU Director of Rugby, said the matchup against St. Mary's gives the Wildcats a chance to settle an old score as CWU played and lost in the final to St Mary's in the last tournament.
CWU head coach Tony Pacheco challenged the team last night to step up and show that they're not just resting on reputation, said Ford, adding, "The win against Life University shows Wildcats have what it takes to win a big match."
