PORTLAND, Ore. — Central Washington University freshman Jesse Zalk, from Battle Ground, has been named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference/Red Lion Hotels Special Teams Player of the Week for the week of October 7-13. The five-foot-eight, 153-pound Zalk recorded 217 all-purpose yards, including 113 on three kickoff returns and 104 yards on a GNAC season-high 14 pass receptions.
In the second quarter, Zalk returned a kickoff 53 yards to set up a 34-yard field goal by CWU freshman kicker Sean McDonald, from Sammamish. Zalk later helped CWU tie the game at 24-24 on a seven-yard TD reception with 2:28 left. He then set up a game-winning 44-yard field goal with one-second left with a 26-yard catch, as CWU rallied from a 17-3 halftime deficit to win its Homecoming game 27-24.
Conference Honorable Mention Special Teams Player of the Week honors went to McDonald, who kicked his first two field goals of the season.
