Washington State Standard 5.5

Ethical Leadership: A school or program administrator is an educational leader who has the knowledge, skills, and cultural competence to improve learning and achievement to ensure the success of each student by acting with integrity fairness, and in an ethical manner.


  1. Ensure a system of accountability for every student's academic and social success
  2. Model principles of self-awareness, reflective practice, transparency, and ethical behavior
  3. Safeguard the values of democracy, equity, and diversity
  4. Consider and evaluate the potential moral and legal consequences of decision-making
  5. Promote social justice and ensure that individual student needs inform all aspects of schooling
  6. Be aware of the effects of power and privilege and the need for social advocacy and social action to better empower diverse students and communities
