10/17/2018 - 8th Congressional District Debate at CWU

Sun, 10/14/2018 - 20:17

The Washington State Debate Coalition today announced October 17 will be the date for a debate at Central Washington University between the two candidates for the 8th Congressional District.

The debate between Democrat Kim Schrier and Republican Dino Rossi, which will be broadcast and livestreamed statewide, will be held in McConnell Hall on the CWU campus in Ellensburg at 7 p.m. Moderators for the debates will be Natalie Brand (KING 5) and Ross Reynolds (KUOW).

“CWU is pleased and excited to host the 8th Congressional District debate, which, according to most polls is one of the most competitive races in the entire country,” noted CWU President James L. Gaudino. “Because of the intense national attention being focused on the upcoming midterm elections, I think it’s safe to say that there is considerable interest throughout the state of Washington and the country on what happens in the 8th Congressional District election.”

The debate is open to the public. Those wishing to attend must register online using the debate’s event page at:

Joining CWU in co-hosting the 8th Congressional District debate are the Associated Students of Central Washington University, Cle-Elum Roslyn School District, Ellensburg Daily Record, Easton School District, Ellensburg School District, Kittitas Chamber of Commerce, Kittitas School District, and Thorp School District.

The coalition, founded by the Seattle CityClub in 2016, seeks to increase the frequency and quality of publicly accessible nonpartisan debates in Washington.

In addition to the 8th Congressional District debate, the coalition is also sponsoring debates between U.S. Senate candidates Maria Cantwell (Democrat) and Susan Hutchison (Republican) at Pacific Lutheran University on October 6 and Gonzaga University on October 30.
