11/14/2017 - Fire and Ice in the PNW

Wed, 11/08/2017 - 20:01
Do you want to time travel? Look no further! Join us at the Museum of Culture & Environment for a look into the past by delving into the depths of fire and ice!
CWU professors Susan Kaspari from Geological Sciences and Megan Walsh from Geography help us envision the future of climate change in the Pacific Northwest by looking into the past. Susan's research examines the impact of black carbon (commonly referred to as soot) on the melting rates of glaciers and seasonal snowpack. Megan's research explores how ancient charcoal deposits can help us understand past fire activity. Taken together, their work can help us understand the complicated relationship between humans, fire, ice/snow, and climate change.
Light refreshments will be served. Event is on Tuesday, November 14, 2017. Begins at 5:30 pm in Dean Hall Lobby.
Where to go for more information: Amason@cwu.edu or Bethkel@cwu.edu

11/08/2017 - Kindness Fair

Fri, 11/03/2017 - 20:06
What does kindness look like? What does it sound like? What does it feel like? Our district is partnering with Gallery One to showcase KINDNESS through expressive art projects, essays, poetry and displays submitted by our students and staff. Contribute as an individual, department, club or team!

All projects will be displayed at the Kindness Fair on Wednesday, November 8th at 6:00 PM at Lincoln Elementary School. Select submissions from the Kindness Fair will be on display at Gallery One during the December First Friday Art Walk! The Wonder Project is inspired by the book Wonder, which will be widely available throughout our schools.

Some great ideas for projects include:
-Color, sketch, paint or create a photo collage of a kind act.
-Write a poem or essay about how a kind act positively affected your day, your week, or your life.
-Create an interactive project to inspire others to be kind.
-Highlight a charitable organization that inspires you and showcase how our community members can get involved.

Pick up a copy of Wonder at your school's front office and GET INSPIRED to help our students practice and showcase KINDNESS in our community and beyond.
