Tactile graphics are raised line images used to convey non-textual information such as maps, graphs and diagrams to individuals who are blind or have low vision. The purpose of a tactile graphic is to convey information or concepts, not to reproduce a visual picture in tactile form.
Creating effective tactile graphics requires careful planning and editing. Images must be simplified to eliminate unnecessary details without compromising the intent of the original. To reduce clutter, complex diagrams are often divided into sections, or separated into layers of information.
