What is the Wine Trade Professional Certificate Program?

The Wine Trade Professional Certificate Program is a ten week intensive, professional development program. The Wine Trade Professional Certificate is taught on the Central Washington University campus in Ellensburg. Completion of the certificate program prepares students for a variety of careers in the wine industry. Below is an outline of the curriculum.

Who is the Program For?

The CWU Wine Trade Professional Certificate Program is designed for individuals seeking a profession in the wine industry. The program is also designed for individuals currently in the wine industry wishing to advance their careers. Participants must be able to attend all sessions and will be expected to put in a considerable amount of time on projects and assignments.

  •     Ability to use professional tasting techniques for wine evaluation.

Application Process

Students must complete the pre-admission requirements prior to admission in the certificate program. Students must fill out an application that includes an essay of motivation and goals. Upon approval of the application, an in-person or telephone interview will be conducted between the program advisor and the student. Upon admittance to the program students must agree to sign a written statement regarding professional conduct and responsibility. Students must be 21 years prior to the first day of class.

Special Requirements

Students will be expected to spend significant amounts of time outside the classroom working on projects and assignments. Students must earn a cumulative minimum 2.5 G.P.A. to receive a certificate of completion.

Financial Obligations

The fee for GWS classes may be higher than regular CWU tuition and is subject to change. Additional fees may also apply. The courses are eligible for student financial aid for matriculated CWU students. Tuition waivers are not allowed.
