Clothing Closet History

It all started with a trip to Salt Lake City in 2012. Sandy Lindelof and Kristina Paquette were at a conference and met an inspiring woman who had started a professional clothing closet at her all-women's university. Sandy and Kristina knew CWU would really benefit from this kind of resource.

After many hours of research, they created a business plan and set out for the necessary resources to launch their idea. They secured a grant to help with some start-up costs, and the first suit they received was donated by President Gaudino's wife, Katie.

Emily Shamrell - Volunteer

One of the most challenging obstacles they ran into was the fact that CWU is coed, so a substantial inventory would be necessary to serve the entire campus community. Donations started to pour in and the daunting task of sorting and inventorying fell to some very gracious student volunteers. Emily Shamrell, now a CWU alum, was key to the success of getting the clothing closet organized. She spent countless hours sorting and tagging each piece of clothing that was received.

The closet is still a work in progress. Eventually the plan is to offer a mobile closet that will travel to the CWU centers regularly, so all of our students have access.
