The purpose of a mock interview is to provide you (students/alumni/community) with an opportunity to practice your interviewing skills in an environment similar to an actual interview. A mock interview is a great opportunity to become familiar with interview questions and interview etiquette. Interview apprehension or even anxiety can be very uncomfortable for the interviewee. Two of the best defenses to counter the stresses associated with interviews are preparation and practice. A mock interview provides the interviewee both an opportunity to practice and prepare for an interview. Career Services offers mock interviews each quarter of the academic year. How long are the interviews?
Interviews generally run around 45 minutes in total length: 20-30 minutes of interviewing and 10-20 minutes of critiquing. Please arrive approximately 10 minutes before your scheduled interview. It is also encouraged that you bring any specific questions about interviewing, job searching, resumes, etc.
Will the interview be filmed?
The interview rooms are equipped with video recording equipment; both VHS and DVD capabilities. Recording the interview allows the interviewer to better review your performance and make suggestions for improvement. 1) The interviewee can chose to have the interview recorded for the purpose of the interviewer's critique (no permanent copy will be made) 2.) The interviewee can choose to have the interview recorded and keep a copy of the interview (DVD or VHS) 3.) Though it is not recommended, the interviewee can choose to not have the interview session recorded.

All interviews are conducted by a Career Services Counselor.
How can I prepare for the mock interview?

Research the Company - Selecting a specific company or general position prior to the interview will assist both you and the interviewer. This is an important part of your preparation and will greatly assist you in answering questions such as; "Why do you want to work for our company?" or "What do you know about our company?" It can also help you communicate your skills to a company's specific needs.
What should I wear?
It is highly recommended that you dress professionally. Dress as you would for an actual interview.
What should I bring to the interview?
It is highly recommended that you are prepared with a resume, curriculum vitae or portfolio appropriate for the position. As in an actual interview, a resume/CV/portfolio can generate questions for the interviewer and allow you to draw from your work and educational experiences.
