Creating Powerful Resumes and Cover Letters

The purpose of a resume and cover letter is to get you an interview. Creating a powerful resume and  cover letter which markets your knowledge, skills, abilities, and strengths is absolutely critical in landing  the position you want in today's job market.

This workshop will address the different resume styles as well as the do's and don'ts" of resumes. You  will also learn what pertinent information should be on your resume as it relates to the job for which  you are applying and how to format and design your resume so that it is clear to the employer that  you have the credentials to do the job.

This workshop will also include how to draft a cover letter and how it works in conjunction with a  resume in marketing your skills to a potential employer.

Developing Effective Interviewing Skills

After submitting your resume and cover letter, you have been invited in for an interview. Now what?

This workshop will review the steps you should take in preparing for an interview, the different types  and formats of interviews, the different elements of interviews, as well as the underlying meaning  behind many of the questions which are asked in an interview.

In addition, you will have the opportunity to review and discuss examples of typical interview questions  and what are good and "not so good" answers to those questions. You will also learn how to organize  your responses in such a way that emphasizes your strengths and your prior experience.

A four-course meal and professional seminar will be presented by Merrily Bjerkestrand. Merrily is a CWU graduate, teacher in the Spokane School District and owner of the NW School of Protocol, which is certified through the Protocol School of Washington D.C.
