An Affiliation Agreement is a contract between CWU and the internship facility. The facility agrees to accept CWU student interns on the condition CWU guarantees that all students placed at the internship facility meet certain conditions.
Any student who will be doing a Cooperative Education Internship in a clinic, hospital, fire department, or ambulance service setting must complete a Pre-Internship File in the Career Services office. A student should start the Pre-Internship File at least one to two quarters prior to the quarter of the internship placement by completing a Pre-Internship File Initiation Form. The Pre-Internship File must be completed before students are able to submit a Learning Agreement for processing. If there is an existing contract with the facility at which a student is planning to do an internship, students are required to meet all terms of that contract. If the Pre-Internship File is not complete, students will not be allowed to start an internship, and the facility will be notified.
For students in clinical programs, once a Pre-Internship File is started, Career Services internship office will email the student a list of requirements for their program. This list will be modified if the facility has additional or different requirements. All items on the list require proof of completion - by bringing copies of those items to Bouillon 206. As a student submits copies of required items, Career Services will notify the student of receipt of the item(s) and a list of those items still needed. When a student has provided proof of all the items on the list, the student and the advisor will be notified that the Pre-Internship File is complete, and the student may now prepare the Learning Agreement.
Certain affiliation agreements require non-clinical majors (such as Psychology, Law & Justice, Business, and Information Technology) to fulfill specific requirements. A list of the specific requirements for each clinical setting is available under Affiliation Agreements at http://www.cwu.edu/career/cooperative-education-and-internships. Students in all affected majors will be required to fulfill the contractual requirements through this Pre-Internship process. Some affiliation agreements affect all majors.
NOTE: If the facility where you intern does not have an Affiliation Agreement with Central Washington University, it still may have specific requirements that you must fulfill prior to beginning the internship.
