Two CWU trumpet ensembles and four soloists have been invited to compete in the semifinal round of the National Trumpet Competition in Washington DC in March. The groups and the individuals submitted videos of their work and were invited as a result of a blind audition process. Three of the members from the ensembles also applied for and were selected as soloists. Two in the undergraduate classical solo division and two in the jazz solo divisions. Tristan Hurd was selected as a soloist in both of those areas. There are over 200 applicants for the solo division and only 40 are invited to compete. It is a great honor to represent CWU and to be selected from a national pool. The participating students from Professor John Harbaugh's trumpet studio are: David Hinckley, Sarah Martinson, Tristan Hurd, Chelsea Blackburn, Skyler Floe, Braden Waddell. Robbie Rutherford, Darin Grief, Brian Bull, and Pavel Spichak.
