Rob Scheps Jazz Quintet here TODAY!

Event: Rob Scheps Quintet concert and clinic

When: Monday, February 26, clinic at 5:00pm, concert at 8:00pm

Where: CWU Music Building Recital Hall

The Rob Scheps Quintet, featuring trumpeter Jim O’Connor and saxophonist Scheps will present a concert of jazz next Monday, February 26th, at the CWU Music Building Recital Hall. The concert will start at 8:00pm due to some scheduling situations within the department. Both Scheps and O’Connor hail from New York City where they have been active performing jazz, shows and all manner of music for well over a decade. O’Connor has performed, toured and recorded with Blood Sweat and Tears, Keely Smith, The New York Pops, They Might Be Giants, Toshiko Akiyoshi, Maria Schneider,  The Monkees, The Vanguard Jazz Orchestra. He also performed in many Broadway show orchestras including The Producers, Forty Second Street, South Pacific, Kiss Me Kate, Cats and Jersey Boys. Scheps has a similar background and performance resume’, and often tours groups out to the West Coast, as was a well-known player in the jazz scene in 1990s Portland.

The quintet will perform a number of unique takes on jazz standards, and will include some originals in the mix.

Their visit to CWU will also include a clinic for students, and the public, on jazz performance practice and techniques. This clinic will also be in the Recital Hall, starting at 5:00pm

Both the clinic and the concert are free and open to the public.
