Please join the Department of Art and the Sarah Spurgeon Gallery for a reception on Friday, May 24, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. for the exhibit "Enacting the Flesh" by MFA candidate Naomi Faith.
Naomi Faith’s work initiates a visual dialogue between objects and bodies. This dialogue promotes awareness in both wearers and observers, reminding us of the biological transformations our bodies are constantly undergoing. Not only do bodies grow and develop productively, they also deteriorate, degrade, excrete, eliminate and ooze. These essential, unavoidable biological processes are often ignored and socially denied, with some ideal notion of the pure self being accepted in places of the messy materiality that constitutes our identity.
"Enacting the Flesh" will be on view to the public May 21 through June 7. Sarah Spurgeon Gallery is located in Randall Hall on Dean Nicholson Boulevard and is open weekdays 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and on weekends, 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Admission is free.
