Join Katrina Whitney for Present Moments

These sessions will be held Wednesdays and Fridays at 11:30am.

Present Moments are an opportunity to join other employees in practicing focus and attention through mindfulness.  Jon Kabat Zinn defines mindfulness as: “Mindfulness means paying attention in a particular way: on purpose, in the present moment, and non-judgmentally. 

Intended Learning Outcomes

  • Recognize how your breath may impact your ability to become more relaxed.
  • Practice breath awareness and being fully present in the moment.
  • Observe body awareness (hearing, sensing, and feeling) and breathe connection.

Session outline

Opening - 5 minutes

  • Introduction. What to expect. You may come and go as you wish.
  • Intention for this time. Provide virtual opportunity to:
      • Get away from your screen.
      • Provide minutes of quiet reflection.
      • Connect with your inner self.

Meditate – 5 -15 minutes

Closing – 1 minute.  Consider:

  • What was the experience like for you? 
  • Did you become aware of something particular during this time?

Katrina Whitney is the Assistant Director of the CWU Diversity and Equity Center. She earned certification through, Breath for Change (mind-body and social-emotional wellness training) and mPEAKs (Mindful Performance Enhancement, Awareness and Knowledge) an intensive course in mindfulness training through the University of California in San Diego. She has been offering Present Moments in person for the CWU community, including students, faculty and staff, for several months.
