On Wednesday evening, May 29th, at 7pm in the McIntyre Music Building Concert Hall, the Central Washington University Percussion Ensemble will present their Spring Extravaganza, “New Works.” Directed by Mark Goodenberger, the entire program will consist of premier or near-premier performances with every space on the entire stage filled by percussion instruments! The concert will open with visiting composition professor Neil Flory’s beautiful trio for the ensemble entitled “Le Tombeau de Petrus”. Then, the ensemble will give the first performance of Goodenberger’s exuberant “Not What I Expected” for four marimbas. Soprano Dr. Gayla Blaisdell will join the ensemble for Gregory Youtz’s “Big Dancer” for soprano and two marimbas. “30” by Marc Applebaum will follow, which is actually three different pieces played simultaneously. Sounds nutty, but it makes sense! The concert will end with Storm Woodyard’s rousing arrangement of “Roundabout” by the British rock band Yes. Don’t miss it!
