Jennifer Gookin Cavanaugh returns to her hometown of Ellensburg to perform in a recital of music for oboe/English horn, mezzo-‐soprano, and piano at the Central Washington University Music Department at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, January 15. Dr. Cavanaugh, Associate Professor of Oboe at the University of Montana in Missoula, will be joined by UM colleagues Dr. Kimberly Gratland James, mezzo-‐soprano, and Dr. Christopher Hahn, piano. The program will include a Baroque set featuring CWU professor Barbara Pickett on organ, as well as Rachmaninoff’s famous Vocalise Op. 34, No. 14 and modern pieces by Andrea Clearfield and Dan Welcher, among others.
Dr. Cavanaugh is a graduate of Ellensburg High School (1991) and earned her Bachelor of Music Degree in oboe performance from Central Washington University in 1995. She received the MM degree in oboe performance from the University of Colorado, and the DMA degree in oboe performance from the University of Washington. She joined the School of Music faculty at the University of Montana in 2009, after ten successful years of teaching in the Midwest at Luther College and Central Michigan University.
