The next Natural Science Seminar will be Friday, February 21st at 4 PM in Science Room 147. Please join us for a presentation by Dr. David Gee of CWU's Dept. of Nutrition, Exercise, and Health Sciences.
The title of Dr. Gee's talk is "The National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES): The Prevalence of Metabolic Syndrome in US Adults: 2003-2010". Metabolic syndrome is a disorder found in individuals with a cluster of medical conditions including abdominal obesity, elevated blood pressure, hyperglycemia, hypertriglyceridemia, and low HDL-cholesterol concentrations. Individuals with metabolic syndrome have substantially increased risk of developing diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. It is estimated that one-third of adult Americans have metabolic syndrome. This presentation will describe how the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) can be used to investigate this common and important disorder among Americans.
The Natural Science Seminar Series is sponsored by the CWU Department of Biological Sciences and College of the Sciences. Visitor parking permits are available to community members who would like to attend. Please contact the Biological Sciences Dept. at (509) 963-2731 by 12:00 on the day of the seminar to make arrangements.
