Lion Rock Visiting Writers Series Presents WA State Poet Laureate Kathleen Flenniken, Wed., !0/17, 7:30 p.m. at MCE

Mark your calendars! Lion Rock Visiting Writers starts with a very special reading with WA State Poet Laureate Kathleen Flenniken. The reading will take place, Wed., October 17, 2012, 7:30 p.m. in the lobby of the Museum of Culture and Environment.

Flenniken’s first book, Famous (University of Nebraska, 2006), won the Prairie Schooner Book Prize in Poetry and was named a Notable Book by the American Library Association and a finalist for the Washington State Book Award. Her second collection, Plume, selected by Linda Bierds for the Pacific Northwest Poetry Series, was published in Spring 2012 by University of Washington Press. The poems in Plume address Flenniken's childhood in Richland, WA, where her father was an engineer at Hanford, and her own early career also working there. This reading is in conjunction with the Particles on the Wall exhibit about the Hanford site at the Museum of Culture and Environment, which features a number of poems from Plume.

"Moving deftly between haunting lyric and disturbing documentary, Kathleen Flenniken packages recent history in a wide variety of poetic forms and styles. Plume raises the bar for documentary poetry, moving us with its timely and important subject matter as well as the meticulous craft of its poems."

--Martha Collins

This reading is co-sponsored by the Museum of Culture and Environment. Kathleen Flenniken's books will be sold at the reading by The WIldcat Shop.

There will be a Q & A at the exhibit in the MCE with Kathleen Flenniken from 3:30-4:30 p.m. on Wed., 10/17, for all interested students and members of the CWU community.
