International Education Week (IEW) - full schedule

International Education Week
October 15-18

Monday, Oct. 15

- “Parade of Flags” 12:00 noon.  To kick off international education week, the international students of CWU will carry their flags in a parade through campus.  Lead by members of the CWU marching band, the students will parade from the International Center, down the Walnut walkway, around the back of Black Hall, up past the SURC east patio and Barto Hall.  Come out to cheer them on and enjoy the diversity that these students bring to our campus.

England, Scotland, U.S. and Australia: We all speak English, don’t we???? SURC Pit, 6:30pm.  Five students from London, Liverpool, Scotland, Australia and Washington will share the meaning and usage of English words that could have a completely different meaning in other English speaking countries. 

Tuesday, Oct 16

- Study Abroad Fair, SURC 137 A&B, 11:00am – 2:00pm, Get comprehensive info on how to study abroad and how to apply.  Discover exciting programs to study, volunteer, or intern abroad.  Hear the experiences of returning participants
and exchange students!

- “The Joys and Challenges of Teaching/Serving International Students”, Black Hall 151, 4-5pm.  FACULTY AND STAFF, THIS IS FOR YOU!!!  International Student Advisor, Roz (Roslyn) Moes will explain the various international student programs at CWU then lead an open discussion on the joys and frustrations that you as a faculty or staff member have with teaching or serving international students.  

Wednesday, Oct 17

- “An Inside Look at Saudi Arabia”, 4-5pm, TBA.  Mohanad AlHusseini and his fellow Saudi students will present various facts, address stereotypes and take you on a virtual tour of their country.  We’ll also provide some information about the Saudi population at CWU; why they’re here, how many there are and the programs they study.

- “Japan Goes Central”, 7:00pm, Sparks Lounge.  Thirty-four sophomores from Asia University in Tokyo, Japan are studying abroad at CWU for five months. Come join them to meet a few of the AU students, play Japanese games and learn what a rich experience AU America Program can offer you as a “Campus Friend”, “Classroom Volunteer” and more!

Thursday, Oct 18

- Modern music from around the world, SURC 137 A&B, 2-4pm.  Do you want to know what college students listen to in other countries?  This event is for you!  Hand selected by the international students themselves, come enjoy (and if you’re up to it, dance!) to what’s being heard on radios, ipods and social media around the globe.  “Gangnam style!”

- Irish dancing performance and workshop, SURC 137 A&B, 4-5pm.  Study Abroad Advisor, Kylie Gallagher has a hidden talent: Irish dancing!  Enjoy a performance by Kylie and her fellow Irish dancers then stick around for lessons on how to get your feet a-movin’!

- International Student Singing Competition, music studio behind Kim Khap Gems and Jewerly, 108 N. Main St, Suite 1, Ellensburg. 5:00pm-9:00pm.  For F-1 and J-1 international students only, this singing competition will judge vocal performance, presentation and overall entertainment for cash prizes!  Sign-up at the International Center, rm 114 to participate, or just come enjoy the performances.
