Friday Safety Tip: Walking at night

Safety when walking at night

At night use sidewalks and off-road paths, rather than walking on the street.

Walk facing traffic so you can see and react to vehicles.

Use extra caution when crossing streets or crossing driving entrances into parking lots.

When exercising:  safety in numbers: Use the same routes used by other walkers and runners.

Beware of tripping hazards. It is harder to see uneven sidewalks, roots, rocks, potholes and trash when it's dark.

Stay off your phone. Distracted walkers not only are a safety hazard to themselves and drivers especially after dark, they are also not aware of potential criminal activity that my be happening around them putting themselves at risk.
