On Friday, June 6 and Sunday, June 8 at 7 p.m., the CWU Opera Ensemble will present “Opera Scenes from Here and There” in Hertz Hall. The CWU Music Department is proud to present its brightest vocal talent in a wide array of operatic styles and languages including English, Italian, French, German and Russian. The performances will feature a scene from the Italian bel canto comic opera, L’Elisir d’amor by Donizetti, and a comedic scene from the French opera, Cendrillon (Cinderella) by Massenet. The evening will span the operatic repertoire including a beautiful love duet from the early Baroque opera, The Coronation of Poppea by Monteverdi, another beautiful love duet from Richard Strauss’ masterpiece, Der Rosenkavalier and a gorgeous Russian duet from Pique Dame by Tchaikovsky. Other scenes include selections from The Magic Flute and Le Nozze di Figaro by Mozart, “The Smuggler’s Quintet” from Carmen, and a favorite quartet from La Boheme by Puccini. The heart-wrenching Finale from the Antonia Act of Tales of Hoffmann by Offenbach will bring tragedy to the offering. The music of Leonard Bernstein will open and close the performance with the exciting “Tonight Quintet” from West Side Story and the “Make our Garden Grow Finale” from Candide.
