CWU Human Resources and the CWU student Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) Chapter have announced that four CWU human resources students—Tanya Avramenko, Ximena Cuevas-Arias, Kiara Hickey, and Megan Smith—recently passed the SHRM-CP certification exam. SHRM-CP certification is specifically designed for students enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s HR degree program at an educational institution aligned with SHRM’s curriculum guidelines.

To be eligible, students must be in their final year of study in the HR degree program, have a minimum of 500 hours of relevant HR experience, and be in good academic standing. With study guides provided by Yakima SHRM and Apple Valley HR Association in Wenatchee, these students spent three months studying for the exam.

“The HR faculty are very proud of these students and their accomplishment,” said James Avey, CWU professor of Human Resource Management. “SHRM certification is the standard of excellence for those of us working in HR.”

By earning this certification, the CWU students have shown an understanding and a mastery of best practices in human resources. All will graduate from CWU in June with a degree in Management, HR specialization, from the CWU College of Business.
