Longtime CWU administrator Agnes Canedo died Monday, October 14, at Kittitas Valley Healthcare following a lengthy battle with cancer. After 33 years of service to the university, she retired on February 1.
Honored earlier this year as a Distinguished Civil Servant, Canedo became CWU’s director of Student Financial Services in 1996, and gained a reputation as a strong advocate for student success. She took pride in making the financial aid process less strenuous by looking for ways to improve the dissemination of information, and implementing efficiencies in the application process.
Canedo began her career at CWU in 1980 as a library technician. In 1986, she joined Extended University Programs as the administrative service manager. In 1992, she became the executive assistant to the President.
Canedo also served on various committees that directly affected student success, such as enrollment and scholarship. Throughout her time at CWU, she demonstrated passion for higher education along with a commitment to service to students, parents, and staff.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
