2/13 Faculty Exhibit Reception Honors Louis Kollmeyer

The Department of Art at Central Washington University will host a special program in honor of Emeritus Professor Louis Kollmeyer at the opening reception of the Department of Art Faculty Exhibition. The reception will take place on Wednesday, February 13, from 5:00-7:00 p.m., in the Sarah Spurgeon Gallery. Announcements recognizing Mr. Kollmeyer’s lifetime contributions to the Department of Art will begin at 5:30 p.m. Refreshments including birthday cake will be served for Mr. Kollmeyer who turned ninety-eight years old on December 6, 2012.

Louis Kollmeyer joined the CWU faculty in 1958 and spent many of his twenty-five years at the university as chair of what is today known as the Department of Art. He was instrumental in the design and construction of Randall Hall, which was built in 1969. Mr. Kollmeyer retired from CWU in 1983, but has continued to paint and exhibit his work well into his nineties. His paintings, which employ a range of watercolor techniques, include landscapes, seascapes, seasonal themes, and prehistoric Native American rock imagery. Several of Mr. Kollmeyer’s paintings will be on view as part of the Department of Art Faculty Exhibition.

The Department of Art Faculty Exhibition takes places every two years and is a showcase for recent artwork in a wide array of media by current and emeritus faculty members. The featured artists for the 2013 exhibit include:  Glen Bach, Howard Barlow, Justin Beckman, Joan CawleyCrane, Maya Chachava, Michael Chinn, Natalie Schmidt Dotzauer, Gary Galbraith, Louis Kollmeyer, Cynthia Krieble, Keith Lewis, Gustavo Plascencia, Stephen Robison, Gregg Schlanger, Margo Selski, Constance Speth, and Shari Stoddard. Beginning this year, the exhibit will also include work by graduate teaching assistants, including Matthew Armbrust, Seth Charles, Brian Kooser, Jim Ward Morris, and Naomi Faith Smith.

The exhibit will remain on display through March 8. Sarah Spurgeon Gallery is located in Randall Hall on Dean Nicholson Boulevard and is open weekdays 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and on weekends, 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Admission is free.
