University Recreation is committed to offering recreation programs that provide personal and professional development for a diverse university community.  Our nationally recognized facilities and services support the university mission by promoting an inclusive campus environment. Our programs contribute to the wholeness and wellness of our patrons while providing co-curricular activities that complement other avenues of learning and aid individuals in achieving balance and well roundedness. Through excellent customer service and care for the individual, University Recreation seeks to provide a sense of belonging that enhances retention for students, faculty, and staff.

Programming Areas Within University Recreation

• Athletic Training
  University Recreation offers a unique free service to Recreation Center members. If you are experiencing pain related to an injury, then our Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) can help. An ATC is an allied health care professional who specializes in the prevention, evaluation, treatment, management and rehabilitation of athletic injuries.
• Group Fitness
  The Group Fitness program offers the University community an instructional exercise program that provides social and physical stimulation. Our comprehensive and cutting-edge fitness classes give you the opportunity to get a unique, instructor-led workout in a highly motivating atmosphere. Our trained and motivating instructors only have one mission- to provide a safe, effective and entertaining workout for you. 
• ​Personal Training
  The Personal Training program offers guidance and assistance in your individual workouts by creating a personalized fitness regimen tailored to your goals, and then coaching you through your workouts to ensure that you exercise at your full potential. Our Personal Trainers provide motivation, education, support and guidance for people of all ages and fitness levels.
• Climbing Wall
  The Recreation Center Climbing Wall stands 50-feet at its highest point and offers climbers an excellent mental and physical workout. Several types of climbing are offered at the Climbing Wall: Bouldering (un-roped climbing below the 14-foot designated bouldering height); Top-Rope Climbing (using an anchor at the top of the wall, with one end of the rope tied off to the climber and the other controlled by a belayer at the base); and Lead Climbing (a more advanced form of climbing).
• Challenge Course
  Perfect for clubs, businesses, community and youth groups, CWU's challenge course offers the opportunity to participate in team building activities to accomplish individual and group goals on both low-ropes elements and a state-of-the-art high challenge course.
• Intramural Sports
  Something for everyone! From basketball to inner tube water polo, the Intramural Sports program is committed to providing diverse, fun and competitive activities that serve the recreational needs of CWU. For most sports there is a registration period at the beginning of the quarter with registration fees for each league based on number of games, officials and facilities. Leagues will last for three to five weeks and tournaments will be one- to two-day events. Winners of leagues and tournaments will receive an Intramural Champion T-shirt!
• Collegiate Sport Clubs
  Collegiate Sport Clubs are designed to allow students the opportunity to participate in competitive sporting activities either individually or in a team setting. Leadership development is a key component as each Sport Club is formed, developed, governed, and administered by its own student membership. The four pillars for Collegiate Sport Clubs are Opportunity, Participation, Leadership, & Competition.
• Outdoor Pursuits and Rentals
  The Outdoor Pursuits and Rentals program offers regularly scheduled guided excursions as well as providing rental equipment and special programs. With a complete storefront and rental shop, students are offered a wide array of equipment to venture out on their own or join one of our scheduled trips. It's also a great place to find information, maps and directions to local hiking, camping and biking destinations. Stop in today to prepare for your next adventure.
• UREC Camps
  University Recreation offers a wide variety of programs for the campus community, as well as for members of our surrounding community. University Recreation camps not only introduce new activities but also help campers experience personal growth and skill development.

​Facility Partnerships
In addition to managing the state of the art Recreation Center, we work with campus and community partners to offer additional opportunities to CWU students: 

• Aquatic Center
  The CWU Aquatic Center is available during designated Family Hours & Open Recreation swim sessions.  The aquatic center is located north of the Recreation Center in a separate building located on Walnut Street, adjacent to the football field.
• Ellensburg Racquet and Recreation Center
  Recreation Center members have access to racquetball courts during regularly scheduled hours of operation. The facility is located at 6061 Vantage Highway.
