Student Spotlight: Julie Penwell

Julie Penwell

Personal Financial Planning Major, Accounting Minor

Women In Business, Investment Club

Julie Penwell is a first year Personal Finance Major and an Accounting minor here at CWU College of business. Julie is involved in multiple organizations here at CWU. She is the Vice President of Women in Business, a member of Investment Club, and she is in the process of creating a Personal Financial Planning Club. Julie believes it is important to be involved in her campus community because “You can learn so much any connect with so many like-minded individuals you wouldn’t otherwise meet.”
CWU was the perfect choice for Julie because she wanted to attend a school with a low student to faculty ratio with an outstanding college of business. She was interested in all of the involvement opportunities just within the College of Business alone and she continues to take advantage of all of the opportunities she has to get involved!
Julie decided to pursue a career in financial planning because of the positive experience she had while taking a finance class in high school. While volunteering at a homeless shelter, she learned that a common factor that leads to homelessness is people’s lack of financial literacy. She is passionate about giving people the tools to make themselves financially stable and providing for their children’s future.
Qualities she believes a personal financial planner should have are patience and empathy. “Finance is very personal and your decisions will affect your client’s long term financial future."
Eventually, Julie would like to have her own financial planning firm targeted towards the millennial generation. She believes this generation has a lack of financial literacy and awareness and wants to contribute to the success of her generation!
