Source Business Plan Competition 2016

“Innovating what tomorrow’s world wants now” is exactly what the finalists of the 2016 SOURCE Business Plan Competition showed they were ready for. Six teams of student entrepreneurs presented their business plans in what was the final stage of the competition which started at the beginning of the year.

The tournament launched in January with presentations from two CWU alumni who each had started successful ventures. In tandem with a series of workshops helping students formulate their ideas, students submitted executive summaries of their ideas. The top submissions from this were provided the opportunity to submit their comprehensive business plans, which were then evaluated for qualities such as likelihood of success and their ability to create value for the world at large. These plans were judged and given suggestions by industry innovators and successful entrepreneurs. The ideas were novel, the quality of the plans was high, and the competition for the $10,000 in seed funding was fierce.

The top three finalists and their business descriptions of what they approved to share are listed below!

The final winners were:

1st Place: Sydney Edmunson & Ivan Villareal
"Crunch-Time”: A confection process developed for production by food cart vendors.

2nd Place:   Kevin Kalb
“Fire”: A literature reading app facilitating reader comprehension and interest.

3rd Place: Sy Danton
"Auto Med”: A non-profit organization to help people in transition with vehicle repair problems.
