Elizabeth Street Named Vice President for University Relations
|
Benefits Open Enrollment Begins October 26
CWU's open enrollment period for employee benefits begins October 26 and will continue through November 30, with enrollment changes effective January 1, 2010. This is the one time each year when employees can change their medical and/or dental plan, reinstate coverage without proof of loss, add an eligible family member to their coverage, and enroll in a Flexible Spending Account and/or Dependent Care Assistance Program.
There will be an Employee Benefits and Wellness Fair in the SURC Ballroom on November 3, from 9 a.m. to noon. Employees not wanting to make any changes in medical or dental coverage don't need to take action. Their 2009 enrollment choices will continue for 2010.
However, those wanting to continue as a subscriber to the Flexible Spending Account and/or Dependent Care Assistance Program must re-enroll for 2010. The enrollment form is available online at pebb.asiflex.com/forms/. Completed forms should then be submitted to Human Resources at mail stop 7425.
During this period, employees can change medical and dental plan enrollment online at www. pebb.hca.wa.gov or by completing the 2010 Employee Enrollment/ Change form and submitting it to the Benefits Office in Bouillon Hall 140 (mail stop 7425).

President Jim Gaudino announced that Dr. Elizabeth "Libby" Street has accepted the position of interim vice president for University Relations, which encompasses Development, Alumni Relations, Public Relations and Marketing, Event Planning, Publications, and the CWU Foundation.
"I am pleased that Dr. Street has agreed to serve in this critical role," said Gaudino. "The importance of the Division of University Relations cannot be overstated. Libby's many years of experience in Washington and with CWU will be invaluable."
Street, who has been with Central for thirty years, has been most recently the university's chief planning officer.
"I look forward to working with the dedicated staff in University Relations to assist them in achieving important advancement goals for CWU," Street said. "The work of the division is always important to the well-being of the university, but never more so than in challenging financial times like the ones we currently face."
At Central, Street has served as executive director of the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges accreditation process, chaired the CWU professional education council, and was

instrumental in the development of the university's Center for the Preparation of School Personnel, now called the Center for Teaching and Learning.
She joined the CWU faculty in 1979 and is a full professor in the Department of Psychology.
While on sabbatical during the 1994-95 academic year she worked as a staff member for Senator Edward Kennedy, D-Massachusetts, on the US Senate Labor and Human Relations Committee. Street was one of only four American Association for the Advancement of Science Congressional Science Fellowship recipients that year, funded by the American Psychological Association.
A native of Morgantown, West Virginia, Street earned her doctorate in educational psychology from West Virginia University in 1977.

Estelle Mathews is August Employee of the Month
|
"Estelle is so competent in all that she does that she makes me look good because everything runs so smoothly," said one colleague of Estelle Mathews, the August Employee of the Month.
Mathews, lead secretary, psychology, is responsible directly to the department chair for planning, organizing, implementing, and coordinating all administrative services for the department and associated interdisciplinary centers.
Her supervisor noted that she is clearly the resident expert on anything related to the department or the university. Students, staff, faculty, and the department chair rely on her heavily for guidance on department and university procedures.
|
Those nominating her used words like "superior
performance" and "going above and beyond her assigned duties." Estelle "consistently meets deadlines, even when they are unreasonably short." According to her nominators, "not only does Estelle work quickly, but all of her work is done competently, accurately, neatly, and thoroughly. She is able to solve the thorniest of problems presented to her by students and faculty. She is the 'face' of the department and she is always present and available to anyone who walks in for any reason."
As an EOM awardee, she received a certificate and $125 from the president's discretionary fund, through the CWU civil service employee recognition program, and is a contender for Employee of the Year award.
