Heart Patient Grateful for Shared Leave Donations
When Mark Walker went in for open heart surgery earlier this year, the last thing he needed to think about was whether he had enough sick leave to cover his life-saving surgery and his recovery time. Walker, who has worked for CWU for thirty years, spent nearly four months away from work recuperating. He was able to do this without the added stress of worrying about providing for his family, thanks to hundreds of hours of shared leave donations from Central employees.
"I just want to express my gratitude for your generosity," said Walker. "It let me have a time of healing."
Walker is now back at work in Facilities Management Custodial Services.
CWU employees may donate leave to a fellow employee in which specific circumstances may cause the employee to take leave without pay or terminate his or her employment. You may donate annual and sick leave in eight-hour blocks, and you may also donate your personal holiday. Certain restrictions do apply to this program.
The shared leave donation form can be downloaded from www.cwu.edu/~hr/forms/
