Our next Natural Science Seminar will be next Friday (February 8th) at 4 PM in Science rm 147. This will be a special seminar by Dr. Bill Sumner of CWU's Department of Computer Science. Below is Dr. Sumner's description of what he'll talk about. Everyone is invited to attend what promises to be a fascinating presentation.
22 years ago I discovered theoretically that Hubble redshift means that the Friedmann Universe is now collapsing. My paper was peer reviewed and published in the Astrophysical Journal in 1994, the finest journal in the field. But, no one seemed to really believe me
Now, spectacular proof of this reasoning is provided by modern Hubble redshift measurements made using the Hubble Space Telescope, the twin Kecks and other modern telescopes observing supernovae.
A caveat: my reasoning is all mathematical and this lecture is not. BUT, an explanation based on a 1939 paper by Erwin Schrödinger is intuitive and my logical reasoning I hope should be crystal clear.
Come see if I can convince you without using tensor equations in curved spacetime geometry, just by waving my arms!
If I can, perhaps I will be embolden to try to make it into a musical, albeit with a serious string quartet.
