Optimization of sports equipment based on human subjects experiments and multi body system modeling
Karen Roemer
Department of Nutrition, Exercise, and Health Sciences, CWU

Dr. Roemer, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Nutrition, Exercise, and Health Sciences (NEHS), is in her second year as a faculty member at CWU.  Her research interests are in the areas of aging biomechanics, balance and stability, obesity, analysis and optimization of human movement, and sports biomechanics.  Her presentation will cover the importance of understanding the interaction between human beings and sports equipment.  She will give two examples - leg press machine and rowing ergometer -  that show how small changes in either the setup of the piece of equipment or of the positioning of a person using the equipment can cause major changes in joint loads.  The talk will focus on the knee joint and how it is (over)loaded.

Visitor parking permits are available to community members who would like to attend.  Please contact the Biology Office at 963-2731 by 12:00 on the day of the seminar to make arrangements.
