The upcoming Natural Science Seminar is Friday, February 21st at 4:00 pm in Science Building 147. Come hear Dr. David Gee, Professor and Program Director of Food Science and Nutrition in the CWU Department of Nutrition, Exercise, and Health Sciences.
Dr. Gee will present on "The National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES): The Prevalence of Metabolic Syndrome in US Adults, 2003-2010". Metabolic syndrome is a disorder found in individuals with a cluster of medical conditions including abdominal obesity, elevated blood pressure, hyperglycemia, hypertriglyceridemia, and low HDL-cholesterol concentrations. Individuals with metabolic syndrome have substantially increased risk of developing diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. It is estimated that one-third of adult Americans have metabolic syndrome. This talk will describe how the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) can be used to investigate this common and important disorder among Americans.
The Natural Science Seminar Series is sponsored by the CWU Department of Biological Sciences and the College of the Sciences. Everyone is welcome! Visitor parking permits are available to community members who would like to attend. Please contact the Biological Sciences Department at (509) 963-2731 by 12:00pm on the day of the seminar to make arrangements.
