Come get to know the ASCWU-BOD candidates better with the Election Forum Monday, April 8 at 6 p.m. in the Student Union and Recreation Center (SURC) Pit. Candidates should dress professionally and be prepared to answer student questions about their positions. Students, get the low down on the candidates and come with questions to get more information about what the candidates stand for.

ASCWU-BOD Weekly Meeting

The Associated Students of Central Washington University Board of Directors (ASCWU-BOD) will host their Weekly Public Meetings every Tuesday, from March 26 to May 28, at 7 p.m. throughout Spring Quarter. All meetings in the months of March and May will be in the Student Union and Recreation Center (SURC) Pit and all meetings in the month of April will be in SURC 301.

These meetings provide an open forum for all Central students and community members to ask questions, give feedback and offer suggestions.

ASCWU-BOD Primary Election

Be sure to vote in the Associated Students of Central Washington University Board of Directors (ASCWU-BOD) Primary Election Wednesday, April 10 in the Student Union and Recreation Center (SURC) from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., with preliminary results being posted by 11:59 p.m. Online voting begins Monday, April 8 at midnight and ends Wednesday at 7 p.m. Registration instructions for online voting will be sent to CWU student email accounts.

The Primary Election will set the General Election ballot for two ASCWU-BOD positions, President and Vice President of Academic Affairs. Bryan Elliott, Travis Beck and Philip Rush are the candidates for President and Kelsie Miller, Jessica Tamara and Christopher Blesie are running for Vice President of Academic Affairs. Only two candidates for each position will move on to the General Election May 2.

Students are also encouraged to attend the Candidate Forum Monday, April 8 at 6 p.m. in the SURC Pit. Students can learn more about the candidates running for each position, while also having the opportunity to ask candidates the questions that matter most to them.

Washington Student Association (WSA) meeting

The Associated Students of Central Washington University Board of Directors (ASCWU-BOD) will host Washington Student Association (WSA) meetings Mondays, April 15, 29, May 13 and 27 at 5 p.m. in Student Union and Recreation Center (SURC) room 236.

The WSA represents, serves and protects the collective interests of students attending public post-secondary institutions of higher education in Washington state and is the recognized voice of students to the Governor’s Office, legislature and higher education institutions and agencies. Through expanded participation, diversity of ideas and unity of voice, WSA aspires to achieve continued victories and involve students in higher education issues to influence decision-making and participate in implementation of higher education policy.

Stop by! ASCWU-BOD Open House

The ASCWU-BOD is hosting a free open house Thursday, April 18 from noon to 2 p.m. in SURC room 236.

This event is a great opportunity for students, staff, faculty and potential BOD candidates to meet and mingle, and tour the BOD office. The current BOD will be present to answer questions about the role of a BOD officer and the election process.

With the general candidates decided, it’s time to see how they really handle the pressure of the campaign trail. The formal Election Debate begins at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 1 in the Student Union and Recreation Center (SURC) Pit. Candidates should dress professionally and be prepared to answer platform-specific questions and participate in a structured debate. This is the perfect chance for students to get to know the candidates in a professional setting.

VOTE! ASCWU-BOD General Election

With the debates finished, the forums finalized and the campaigning in full swing, it’s time to get down to business and vote. Voting begins online voting at 12 a.m. midnight and in person at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 2 and closes at 7 p.m. Polling locations will be available at the east and west patio entrances of the Student Union and Recreation Center (SURC) and online through the BOD website at www.cwu.edu/ascwu.

Students, now is the time to make the decision of who will become the faces and representatives of the university next year. Get your voices heard and vote on who you want to make an impact on the campus as they serve as a member of the BOD.
