Undergraduate Student Achievement Award Entry Form

The College of Arts and Humanities takes great pride in recognizing the outstanding work of its students. Please take the opportunity to nominate an undergraduate student for an achievement award.

Each recipient will be celebrated and presented with an award, along with other honorees, at the College of the Arts and Humanities Year-End Celebration on May 7, 2019 in the SURC Ballroom from 5-7 PM.

Candidates may be nominated for an award by faculty, staff, or students within the College of Arts and Humanities. Self-nominations are also accepted.

Your nomination must be received by the Dean's office by 12 p.m. on April 1, 2019. If you need an extension, please contact the Dean’s office at (509) 963-1853 for approval.

To be eligible, applicants must be an undergraduate student enrolled spring quarter 2019, with a declared major or minor in one of our eight CAH departments: 1) Art 2) Communication 3) English 4) World Languages 5) History 6) Music 7) Philosophy and Religious Studies 8) Theatre Arts or one of our three Interdisciplinary programs: 1) Latino and Latin American Studies 2) Asia Studies 3) Africana and Black Studies.

Award Descriptions

The Thomas Gause Award for Achievement in Music: Composition
This award will be given to a CAH undergraduate student to recognize an original music composition. Submissions should include a copy of the original score and a recording of a performance of the piece.

The Betty E. Evans Award for Achievement in Creative Writing
This award is given annually to a CAH undergraduate student to recognize a single work of creative writing. Genres in short fiction, playwriting, screenwriting, and poetry are all accepted.  Pieces must include a title.

CAH Award for Achievement in Non-Fiction Writing: Creative Non-Fiction or Journalism
This award is given annually to a CAH undergraduate student to recognize a single piece of non-fiction writing or journalism.  Pieces must include a title.

The George Stillman Award for Achievement in Art
This award is given annually to a CAH undergraduate student to recognize a single work of 2-D or 3-D creative artistry. Entries must be submitted in digital format and the title of the piece must be included.

CAH Award for Achievement in Performance
This award is given annually to a CAH undergraduate student to recognize a single live (theatrical, music) or recorded (film, broadcast journalism). Students submitting their work for this category should include a one-page synopsis of the work (including date of the production, and cast and crew credits, as appropriate) and a recorded copy of the performance in digital format if possible.

The Raymond Smith Award for Achievement in Scholarship
This award is given annually to a CAH undergraduate student to recognize a single scholarly work. As many as two awards may be given each year. Pieces must include a title.

The Marji Morgan Outstanding Student Award
This award is given annually to two CAH undergraduate students who have an excellent academic record and have demonstrated a commitment to improving our campus and/or local communities. Students must be nominated for this award by one or more faculty. Nomination letters should address the criteria above and include the student's resume. 

Rules of entry:
(1) work must have been completed while enrolled at CWU
(2) all entries must be submitted using this form, but the student name should not appear on the work itself to enable anonymous judging
(3) students may submit entries in any or all competitions, but are limited to one entry per competition.
