CWU Musical, Theatre Offerings Light up the Holidays

Central Washington University offers a wealth of wonderful performances that will delight you and your family this holiday season.

It wouldn’t be the holidays without Central Theatre Ensemble’s A Christmas Carol, adapted from Dickens’ classic novel by Brenda Hubbard, theatre arts professor. A holiday family favorite, this adaptation features Michael Smith as the crotchety Scrooge, along with members of the Ellensburg community. It is a timeless classic that reveals the true meaning of Christmas. A Christmas Carol will be performed December 5, 6, and 7 at 7:30 p.m. and December 8 at 2 p.m. in McConnell Auditorium. Tickets are $12 general admission, $10 for seniors/students, and $7 for CWU students w/ID.

On December 6, electric violinist Geoffrey Castle and his special guests perform a magical Celtic Christmas Celebration, an unforgettable evening of ancient melodies and masterful musicianship. Tickets are $25 general admission, $15 for seniors/students with ID, and $10 for children under 12. The concert begins at 7:00 p.m. in the McIntyre Music building Concert Hall.

On December 7, enjoy a beautiful night of music and gourmet dining at the CWU Choirs Holiday Dinner Concert. The evening will feature soloists, as well as small and large ensembles that will sing selections of holiday music from around the world, including seasonal carols by candlelight. Semi-formal holiday attire is suggested. The dinner will begin at 6:00 p.m. in the SURC Ballroom. Tickets are $50 and must be reserved in advance. The proceeds of the dinner will be used to establish and fund scholarships for choral education majors and other needs of the choral education program.

Of course, nothing sets you up for a cool Yule better than the Jazz Nutcracker, a perennial favorite. Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn rearranged the classical ballet score and it is considered one of their most ambitious collaborations. The concert will begin at 7:00 p.m., December 13, in the McIntyre Music building Concert Hall. Tickets are $7 for general admission and $5 for seniors, children, and CWU students w/ID.
