ELLENSBURG, Wash. — The CWU Sarah Spurgeon Gallery will host the Department of Art’s 2014 Juried Undergraduate Student Art Exhibition. The opening events will take place on Thursday, May 1, with a reception from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The awards ceremony, where students receive money and gift certificates for excellence in their artwork, will begin at 7:00 p.m.

This annual exhibition is a showcase for outstanding undergraduate student artwork created during the past academic year. It is open to CWU students who have produced original artwork while attending studio classes in the Department of Art.

This year’s jurors, who select the artwork for the exhibit and assign many of the awards, are Thomas O’Day and Gregory Stiles, both from Spokane Falls Community College (SFCC). O’Day is a studio art instructor and also the director of the SFCC Fine Arts Gallery. Stiles is an instructor in graphic and web design. Prior to the opening of the exhibition both jurors will give a public lecture on Thursday, April 24, at 4:00 p.m. in Randall Hall, Room 117.

Student awards for the 2014 Juried Undergraduate Student Art Exhibition have been generously donated by the following individuals and organizations: Jane Orleman, Professor Glen L. Bach, Shane L. Johnson Illustration, Gallery One Visual Arts Center, PUNCH Gallery, the College of Arts and Humanities, the Student Artist Collective, the Department of Art, and Sarah Spurgeon Gallery.

The exhibition will remain on display through May 20.
