Central Washington University's Army Reserve Officers' Training Corps (AROTC)—Wildcat Battalion and Air Force Reserve Officers' Training Corps (AFROTC)—Detachment 895—Cascade Cowboys invites the Kittitas County community to the 25th Annual Presidential Day Retreat and Awards Presentation on Friday May 17, at 1:00 p.m., at Tomlinson Stadium and Field.
The Army and Air Force units will hold a full, military-style parade to honor the support from the university and local community. Additionally, cadet annual awards will be presented by local and national organizations. A reception will be held following the proceedings.
The guest speaker will be CWU President James L. Gaudino, who will officiate at this year's event as well. Other reviewing officials include Marilyn Levine, provost and vice president; Connie R. Lambert, dean of the College of Education and Professional Studies and military coordinator; William J. Bender, associate dean of the College of Education and Professional Studies; Lieutenant Colonel Scott W. Carpenter, chair and professor of Military Science, Army ROTC Wildcat Battalion; Lieutenant Colonel Jason A. Densley, chair and professor of Aerospace Studies and Commander of Air Force ROTC Detachment 895—Cascade Cowboys; and Master Sergeant Kori J. Kvalevog, senior military instructor of Military Science, Army ROTC—Wildcat Battalion.
Both ROTC programs have a long history of excellence. Starting as a mandatory program for all male students enrolled at the university, the program has matured to meet the needs of the all-volunteer military. ROTC provides enhanced leadership and management training and instills military ethics and skills necessary to meet the challenges of today's armed forces. Cadets not only focus on their academics and military training, but also contribute to community service projects like American Red Cross Blood Drives, the Yakima River Clean-up, and the 24 Hour POW/MIA Vigil.
