Through the generosity of Pete and Sandra Barlow, the Department of Anthropology and Museum Studies is pleased to support awards for students to participate in anthropology-centered learning opportunities.

Opportunities may include, but are not limited to, participation in a field school, study abroad, internship program, or faculty mentored student research. Note: All anthropology-centered learning opportunities relevant to the student's course of study are eligible for funding. These opportunities should be tied to credit bearing work, either prior to, during, or following the award. If you are not sure how an opportunity that you are interested in might fit, please talk to a department faculty member.

Eligibility & Amount of Award

Undergraduate students: Anthropology majors, Anthropology minors, and Museum Studies minors may apply for up to $1000 each.

Graduate students: Cultural and Environmental Resource Management and Primate Behavior graduate students whose committee chair or advisor is a department member may apply for up to $800 each.

Awards will be made competitively based on the criteria listed below. If applications exceed available funding, first priority will be given to students applying to programs sponsored by the Department of Anthropology and Museum Studies, either directly or through the involvement of department faculty.

Evaluation of applications will take into account three criteria:

  1. Academic record: GPA and relevant coursework (10 points)
  2. Quality of application statement (10 points)
  3. Input from recommending faculty member (10 points)

Ecuador Archaeological or Ethnographic Field School

Faculty - mentored student research (Individual Studies)
