From The Director: Celebrating Wildcats

Central Washington University has equipped our graduates with the tools they need to succeed in a highly competitive and ever changing job market for 125 years. Whether you are preparing for graduation, seeking a second career or simply looking to advance in your current industry rest assured you have the skills and ability to be successful.

This also means that you have access to one of the richest and most valuable networks available, the Wildcat Network. With events like the 2016 Grad Celebration, Men & Women of the 50s and 60s Reunion, Wildcat Day at Silverwood, and CWU Day at Seattle Sounders FC, we encourage you to take advantage of these opportunities to come out and connect with your classmates and to demonstrate what it means to be a Wildcat to our newest group of alumni. Mother Teresa once said “You can do what I cannot do. I can do what you cannot do. Together we can do great things.” There is no greater feeling then a sense of belonging and when we back this up with unwavering support as a member of the wildcat family we can rest assured that our newest alumni will have the advantage they need to be successful as they transition to life after university.

With the academic year coming to a close and graduation coming up, we thought it would be helpful to give the class of 2016 some insight into how to be successful in their futures. We reached out to you, our CWU alumni, for advice to the graduating class and got back an abundance of responses that were nothing short of insightful for the upcoming graduating class. Thank you to all alumni who took the time to contribute great advice to future alumni.

Just as we support students and alumni across the Northwest, and around the country, we also aspire to stay connected to our international alumni. Being a Central Wildcat means being part of a diverse community of people that all share one thing, their love for Central Washington University. Central Washington University has set an International attendance record by being the home to almost 550 international students. This includes students from Saudi Arabia with large numbers from China, Japan, and over 40 other countries. This is Central’s 28th year being a part of the Asia University America Program offering an exclusive cultural and language education experience for Japanese students. CWU hosts up to 150 AUAP students a year and plans on continuing to do so for years to come. This makes it possible for CWU alumni to stay connected globally for jobs, events, or even just a friendly face all made possible by the alumni association.

Because we know the importance of providing opportunities for alumni to reconnect with the university we want to hear from you. We ask you to take a Communication Survey to let us know how we should be communicating with you about the amazing opportunities to connect with current students, network with fellow alumni or even learn about ways Wildcats can support each other by shopping at alumni owned or operated businesses. Because we value your time and input everyone who takes the survey will have an opportunity to be entered into a drawing to win two free Sounders Tickets and a $50 gift card to the Wildcat shop so you can swag out and show your Wildcat Pride. We value your input on our quest to continue to improve, please click here to take the survey now.

It has been another great academic year at Central and, as your Alumni Director, I am looking forward to all that we have planned this summer. I look forward to working with the Alumni Board as we continue to work towards more enhanced communication and engagement opportunities. We will be taking the month of July off from our usual newsletter to process the feedback we receive from the previously mentioned survey. I look forward to seeing you at one of our upcoming programs. Don’t forget to save the date for Homecoming that is scheduled for October 10-15, as we take on Western Oregon in our celebration of 125 years of teaching excellence and don’t forget, once a wildcat, #AlwaysAWildcat.
