In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month, Gard will be donating $1 per glass pour, $2 per bottle sale and $5 per wine club sign up to The Foundation at Kittitas Valley Healthcare to assist them in the campaign to bring Digital Mammography to Kittitas County. For his famous, award-winning poetry, Eduardo C. Corral will be visiting Central Washington University on Oct. 18th. From noon to 1 p.m. he will host a craft talk in Black 151 titled, “The Triggering World: Using the Senses to Generate Language.” Later that evening, starting at 7:30 p.m. he will read from his award-winning book of poetry “Slow Lightning” in the Student Union and Recreation Center Ballroom. Praised for his seamless blending of English and Spanish, tender treatment of history and careful exploration of sexuality, Eduardo C. Corral has received numerous honors and awards, including the Discovery/The Nation Award, the J. Howard and Barbara M.J. Wood Prize, a Whiting Writers’ Award and a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts. Corral is visiting as part of CWU’s annual social justice dialogue on immigration and migration. This event is sponsored by CWU College of Arts and Humanities, CWU Department of English, CWU Center for Leadership and Community Engagement, CWU Center for Latino and Latin American Studies, Department of World Languages and Cultures, Karen Gookin and the Wildcat Shop. Panel: 6:30 p.m. SURC 137 A/B Free | Open to the public Monday night there will be a panel on the Politics of Immigration: Law and Policy. The panel is intended to discuss and educate the community on understanding the legal, political and personal ramifications of immigration law and policy. The public is invited enjoy complimentary refreshments and listen to some of Washington state’s most knowledge individuals talk about the current politics of immigration. Chuck Reasons, Professor of Law and Justice, will be moderating the evening discussion. There will be four individuals with extensive knowledge on the immigration system on the panel to give their expert opinion. Mirta Laura Contreras is the Directing Attorney at the Northwest Immigrant Rights Project. She’s held various jobs in the Washington State public interest law system over the last 19 years before she started working in her current position. Carmen Méndez is a Yakima City Councilmember for District 3. She was born in Yakima but raised in Colima, Mexico. She currently serves as the Executive Director of Safe Yakima Valley, which is a coalition to promote a safe community. Rodrigo Renteria-Velencia is an assistant professor in the Anthropology department. He teaches environmental anthropology and has spent time in the Gulf of California studying indigenous societies. Gilberto Garcia is a Political Science professor at CWU and he focuses on the political and economic conditions in the Latino community and the impact of Chicano civil rights movement.

Local medical professionals who specialize in women’s health will come together for a discussion panel at Hal Holmes Center on October 18 from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m.  In recognition of October as breast cancer awareness month, the panel will address common questions related to mammography and breast health screening.  However, all questions related to women’s health will be welcome.  Panelists will include Dr. Vicki Macy, Teresa Beckett, ARNP, PA-C, and certified nurse midwife Tina Fought of KVH Women’s Health; Dr. John Sand of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Ellensburg; and Dr. Ginger Longo of CWU Student Medical and Counseling Clinic.  These local healthcare providers specialize in women’s health, gynecology, and obstetrics. Attendees will have an opportunity to meet local women’s health providers and ask general questions related to women’s health.  The first 50 attendees will receive a small gift bag and all attendees may enter to win a $100 gift certificate to a local spa and salon.  Light refreshments will be provided. Questions about women’s health will be taken during the event or they may be submitted in advance by emailing questions@kvhealthcare.org.  The answers provided by the panel are for general information only.  Specific questions about an individual’s personal health should be directed to their healthcare provider.

You may recognize Regan from his performances on the “Late Show with David Letterman” or from his Comedy Central specials. Known for his observational comedy, Regan appeals to a wide variety of audiences. His acts are comparatively clean as he generally avoids using profanity.
