In celebration of Pride Week at CWU, the Equity and Community Services Council (ESC) and Equality through Queers and Allies (EQuAl) are excited to present the Queer Art Show Wednesday, May 27 in Student Union and Recreation Center (SURC) room 137 A/B. The art show is open all day and everyone is encouraged to attend. The Queer Art Show strives to create a positive space for queer expression. Everyone is invited to help build and affirm Central's queer community and to challenge traditional notions of identity, art and the queer experience by either submitting your own work or attending the show to support the artists. It’s that time of year again to celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community, and CWU is set to host a week’s worth of events for CWU Pride Week Monday, May 25 through Friday, May 29. Pride is a nationally recognized movement in celebration of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual and ally culture with annual events scheduled in cities and communities across the globe. A wide range of events are planned at CWU, from professional lectures to drag shows. 
 
One distinguished event is the Professional Drag Show, complete with a live musical performance by the award winning CWU a capella group Fantastic Forte Friday, May 29 at 7 p.m. in the Student Union and Recreation Center (SURC) Ballroom. Hosted by well-known drag performers Aquasha DeLusty and Jenuwine Beauté, this free show is set to close out Pride Week in style.
 
In addition to the drag show, a “Queen Fling” is scheduled following the performance, which includes an all-inclusive, all-ages dance at the Elmira in downtown Ellensburg at 117 E 4th Ave. Free transportation from the SURC to the Elmira will be provided by the CWU Access, Belonging, Learning and Equality (ABLE) club.

It’s that time of year again to celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community, and CWU is set to host a week’s worth of events for CWU Pride Week Monday, May 25 through Friday, May 29. Pride is a nationally recognized movement in celebration of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual and ally culture with annual events scheduled in cities and communities across the globe. A wide range of events are planned for CWU, from professional lectures to drag shows.
 
One such event of note is a live performance by Ryan Cassata, singer-songwriter and transgender motivational speaker, who will combine music and activism to highlight the transgender community Wednesday, May 27 at 7 p.m. in the Student Union and Recreation Center (SURC) Theatre. This event is free and open to the public.
 
Cassata is a transgender male who has been speaking publicly about Gender Identity Disorder, Transgenderism and bullying, and his own personal transition from female to male. He has performed at multiple venues and has made appearances on the popular television shows such as the “Larry King Live Show” and “The Tyra Banks Show.”

CWU?s Orchesis Dance Company presents its annual Spring Performance May 28 through 30 in the McConnell Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. each evening. The 30-member company brings a wide range of dance styles to the performance, which includes the work of faculty and student choreographers. Along with various modern works, the Orchesis show also features ballet, jazz, tap and various ballroom styles. Tickets are $10 for general admission, $8 for seniors and students, $5 for CWU students w/ID and are available at the door or online at www.cwu.edu/tickets. For more information call 509-963-1937. The performance is co-produced and sponsored by the CWU Physical Education, School & Public Health (PESPH) Department and the CWU Theatre Department.

Pride is a nationally recognized movement in celebration of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual and ally culture with annual events scheduled in cities and communities across the globe. CWU?s celebration of Pride Week is From Monday, May 25 through Friday, May 29, and numerous events are planned on campus. One such event, and a favored one each year, is the Amateur Drag Show Friday, May 29 at 11 a.m. on the Student Union and Recreation Center (SURC) West Patio. Everyone is encouraged to attend this popular free event. In addition, a Pride Parade will follow and anyone and everyone is welcome to march. Grab a sign or a flag and join the group! 05/30/2015 - Wildcat Dash 5k and Obstacle Course This Spring

For the fourth year in a row, CWU University Recreation is hosting the Wildcat Dash 5k on campus. This is a 5k with a twist Saturday, May 30 features a full obstacle course in addition to five kilometers of running. Check-in begins at 9:30 a.m. on the Student Union and Recreation Center (SURC) East Patio and the event begins at 10 a.m. Registration is open online at www.cwu.edu/tickets and is $20 for CWU students and Recreation Center members and $40 for non-members before Friday, May 25, and $25 and $45 respectively until the day of the event. Participants who pre-register will receive a free Wildcat Dash t-shirt and the first male and female to complete the 5k will win an Intramural Champion t-shirt and bragging rights. This event is open to the public and all are welcome to take the challenge.
 
The Wildcat Dash is equipped with at least a dozen obstacles designed to challenge each participant physically and mentally. Some of the obstacles include crawling through mud, carrying paint buckets, a rope climb and walking a balance beam, just to name a few. Participants will get muddy, so appropriate attire and footwear are required.

Become a Home Fire Preparedness Volunteer

Seven times a day, someone in this country dies in a home fire.
The American Red Cross has launched a nationwide campaign to reduce this number.

You can help Save Lives by Volunteering!

We need volunteers to help with:

  •   Canvassing-going door-to-door and promoting free smoke alarm installation, providing residents

    with important information on preparing for Home Fires and Wildfires

  •   Installation-help install smoke alarms, replace batteries, and teach residents how to test/ maintain their smoke alarms, help residents develop a fire escape plan and complete a fire- safety checklist

In an effort to reach out to the community and share their cultural heritage, Poly Central will host PolyFest 2015 Thursday, May 28 from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Student Union and Recreation Center (SURC) Ballroom. PolyFest is a cultural dance tour of the Polynesian Islands and will feature a choreographed dance exhibition by CWU students highlighting the heritage of the Polynesian cultures. Dances from Hawaii, Fiji, Samoa, New Zealand, Tonga and Tahiti will be featured in this high-energy celebration of Island culture and history. This event is free and open to the public. Joining Poly Central for the festivities will be NIU Roots, a Seattle-based Polynesian dance group. The collaboration offers the local Islander communities a chance to come together and share their cultural roots with the CWU and Ellensburg communities in a grand presentation. Don?t miss out on an evening of drums, dance and cultural expression as PolyFest 2015 brings the island life to CWU.
