Petsense locations will partner with animal shelters, rescue organizations, and educational vendors nationwide to help educate the public and find loving homes for 1,200 homeless pets during their biggest life-saving event to date - "Forever Home 2016!"

Adoptable pets from several shelters and rescues will be showcased at Petsense from 9am - 5pm, Saturday, May 6th. During this event, every adopter will be given a bag of pet supplies from our generous pet vendor partners. Television stations, radio stations, newspapers, and online venues will be provided a pre-produced public service announcement to make the public aware of this huge nationwide effort.

Please join Central Washington University's CERMA, the CERM Grad Program, and the Geography Department for a panel discussion on wildlife conflicts: Living with Predators. Predators can be found throughout Washington. From cougars found throughout the state, to wolves currently being recovered in central and eastern Washington, to grizzly bears, which U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the National Park Service are considering recovering in the North Cascades. These animals undoubtedly serve important roles in ecosystems but as human development spreads, conflicts are bound to occur. Carol Bogezi, PhD candidate at the University of Washington will discuss her research finding ways to reduce these conflicts. We will then open up to a panel discussion, with perspectives from economic, ranching, state agency, and conservation viewpoints. Don't miss this unique event! Speakers include: Carol Bogezi, PhD candidate University of Washington; Shawn Cantrell, Defenders of Wildlife; Molly Linville, KV Ranch, Palisades, WA; Dr. Toni Sipic, CWU Department of Economics; and Steve Wetzel, WA Department of Fish and Wildlife. Uphill, into the wind, both ways!

Join us for Run Like the Wind, for 5k, 10k, and Half Marathon races, and a free kid's dash. Run the trails and roads navigating the mountains and valleys of the Wild Horse Wind Facility. These races will be challenging, with elevation gain and tough trails, but with gorgeous views of Mt. Rainier, the Cascades, and the Columbia Basin. Join a guided tour of the wind farm before or after your race to see the awesome power of the wind. Enjoy live music by the Chance Brothers Band, beer from Iron Horse Brewery and great food at the finish line.

04/25/2017 - 9th Annual Rock Against Rape to Raise ft. Cobra Hawk

Students, staff and faculty are joining forces to combat rape and sexual assault through music, live art demonstrations, games and conversation. Ellensburg rock band Cobra Hawk will be performing throughout the event, and the band members are looking forward to raising awareness about rape and sexual assault. "I think sexual assault is a bigger problem than some people may realize," the group stated. "If our music or our performance can help spread the message of the event, then we feel a sense of duty to do so." Live art demonstrations will be held during the event. Artists will paint, draw and sketch a work of art that ties into the event’s theme, and winners will be chosen after they create their piece. Free food and drinks will also be available, and guests can sport a free t-shirt to continue showing support for wellness and preventative initiatives shared at Rock Against Rape.   For more information about this event, please contact the CWU Wellness Center at wellness@cwu.edu. Jazz, Bites & Sips will partner with Gallery One Visual Arts Center to present their 2017 Spring Experience on Friday, April 28 at 6:00 PM.  Under the leadership of host Lenny Price since 2013, JBS is proud to welcome guests to the 17th installment of this community-based entertainment series.

Ellensburg Big Band is a full-size stage band comprised of 18 to 20 Kittitas County residents.  The instrumentation generally consists of five saxophones (two altos, two tenors, and one baritone), five trumpets, four trombones and a four-piece rhythm section (composed of drums, bass, piano and guitar). Dance instructor Chris Peterson of Yakima, who has worked extensively with the CWU Swing Cats over the years, will teach a brief swing dance lesson before the performance for beginners.  www.ellensburgbigband.com
