11/20/2014 - Don?t Quit Cold Turkey Bowling

Snuff out that smoke, gather some friends and head to the CWU Student Union and Recreation Center (SURC) for a game of bowling. On Thursday, Nov. 20 at 11 a.m. in the CWU Student Union and Recreation Center (SURC) Pit, the Wellness Center will host Don't Quit Cold Turkey Bowling as it participates in The Great American Smokeout, a nationwide campaign that challenges tobacco users to make a plan to quit. Attendance is free and open to the public, smokers and non-smokers alike. Participants will use fake stuffed turkeys as bowling balls to knock over makeshift cigarette bowling pins. Throughout the event, the Wellness Center will provide information to students and will be handing out ?quit kits? for those who are interested in quitting. The quit kits will provide National Tobacco Quitline information and will also include fun giveaways and stress-relief aids. 11/16/2014 - CWU Theatre Production: The Duchess of Malfi

For their fall production, the Central Theatre Ensemble will be performing “The Duchess of Malfi” by John Webster. Directed by Brenda Hubbard, the play is set in 17th century Jacobean period Italy. A duchess who functions as sole ruler of Malfi falls in love and remarries as she battles the forces of evil when her two violent brothers seek to overthrow her. Filled with psychological intrigue and Webster’s magnificent poetry, this story demonstrates both the sunniest and darkest aspects of the human spirit in a vivid and compelling drama.
 
The production will run on Nov. 14, 15, 20, 21 and 22 at 7:30 p.m. as well as Nov. 16 and 23 at 2 p.m. at the Milo Smith Tower Theatre on the CWU campus. Patron discretion is advised, as some material may be unsuitable for children under 17. Admission is $12 for adults, $10 students/seniors and $7 for CWU students w/ID. Tickets are available at the CWU Welcome Center and Wildcat shop.

This seminar will present information about practical and optimal nutritional practices for longevity and the aging body. It will be held in the Lombard Room of Sue Lombard Hall on the CWU-Ellensburg campus. Nutrition and Health expert Kelly Pritchett, PhD will present, followed by 30 minutes of Q&A. 11/17/2014 - FISH Food Drive

Holidays can be tough and trying times for many, especially those who aren't able to provide enough food for their families. Luckily, the CWU Equity and Services Council (ESC) and Friends in Service to Humanity (FISH) are teaming up for the FISH Food Drive Monday, Nov. 17 to Sunday, Nov. 23 to help local families in need. Anyone is welcome to donate, and donation boxes will be conveniently located on the CWU campus at the Student Union and Recreation Center (SURC) East and West entrances, the SURC C-Store and the Student Government Office in SURC 256. Drop off locations are also available in the community starting Friday Nov. 21 to Sunday, Nov. 23 from 5 to 8 p.m. outside of Grocery Outlet and Super 1 Foods.  
 
The full wish list of food and toiletry items includes: canned fruit or vegetables, dried fruit, jams/jellies, pasta sauces, rice/quinoa, pasta/noodles, cereal, oatmeal, peanut butter, canned soup, mac n’ cheese, baby food, granola bars, crackers, beans and canned proteins, toothpaste, soap, shampoo and more.

11/15/2014 - Imagine No Malaria 5k at CWU

For some unfortunate areas of the world, malaria is still widely pervasive and carries a high mortality rate. While curable, many Sub-Saharan African counties still struggle with eradicating it completely. As part of a local effort, CWU Wesley and Imagine No Malaria are teaming up to put their best foot forward with a 5k run or walk through the CWU campus on Saturday, Nov. 15 beginning at 10 a.m. Registration is $15, due Nov. 14 and available at https://runsignup.com/Race/WA/Ellensburg/ImagineNoMalaria5k. T-shirts will be provided for runners to represent the cause and wear during the run. This event is open to the public.
 
The 5k will start at Alder Recreation Complex and move through the CWU campus, ending back where it started. Water stations will be available during the run. For a full map of the run, please visit http://routebuilder.org/v88.
