10/24/2015 - Homecoming Entertainment Headliner: Iliza Shlesinger

NBC’s Last Comic Standing winner Iliza Shlesinger is set to bust a few guts as the entertainment headliner for CWU Homecoming 2015. Everyone is invited to attend Saturday, Oct. 24 at 8 p.m. in the CWU Student Union and Recreation Center (SURC) Ballroom. Tickets are $12 for CWU students w/ID, $18 for general admission and $25 for reserved seating. Tickets are available at
Since winning Season 6 of “Last Comic Standing” Shlesinger has found resounding success performing live stand-up in front of sell-out crowds. In a partnership with online-streaming company Netflix, Shlesinger released two comedy specials as timed exclusives: “War Paint” in 2013, and “Freezing Hot” in January 2015. Both received commercial and critical appraisal.
As part of “Freezing Hot’s” release, Shlesinger is currently touring the U.S., including CWU where she will be performing material from that special in addition to all new jokes. Tickets to the Oct. 24 show are available now at

Everyone has the power to do something that improves the life of another. Whether it?s starting a project that helps one person or working on one that benefits a whole community, every contribution makes a difference. The Center for Leadership and Community Engagement (CLCE) wants to give CWU Students an opportunity to participate in Make a Difference Day, the largest single-day volunteering effort in the country, by helping the Ellensburg Downtown Association prepare the 65 downtown flower pots for winter. Join your peers and colleagues for a fun outdoor activity while also helping to preserve the beauty of downtown Ellensburg. Volunteer check in is at 9:30 a.m. in the Student Union and Recreation Center (SURC) Pit and will leave by 10 a.m. for Rotary Pavilion. Now that D Street is officially Wildcat Way following a unanimous decision by the Ellensburg City Council, it?s time to celebrate. The Associated Students of Central Washington University (ASCWU) Student Government will be officiating the ceremonial occasion Friday, Oct. 23 at 4 p.m. in front of Shaw Smyser Hall on the southwestern corner of CWU?s campus. The former D Street sign on the corner of E. University Way will be switched out to the new name in addition to a community photo. In an effort to promote the literary arts and engage the CWU and Ellensburg youth and families, the Center for Diversity and Social Justice (CDSJ) presents Family Literacy Nights Thursday, Oct. 22, Tuesday, Oct. 27 and Tuesday, Nov. 7 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in Michaelsen Hall room 126. These events are free and open to the public. CWU teacher candidates enrolled in EDLT 321, Teaching Children's Literature, will read to the children at this great opportunity to bring the family out for a fun night of reading. October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and in honor of the victims who have suffered or currently suffer at the hands of domestic partners, the Center for Diversity and Social Justice (CDSJ) invite you to join them for a Silent Candlelight Walk on Wednesday, Oct. 21.
